From 1950 to 1960 : American poets lived in this hotel and together, created the "Beat Generation", artistic wave. Among them were W. Burroughs, Allen Ginsbergh, Gregory Corso, B. Gysin, Orlowsky, Jack Kerouac.
2009 will see the 50th Anniversary of the first edition of /Naked Lunch/ published in Paris in July 1959 by Olympia Press. This book was written in the Beat Hotel, 9 rue Git-le-Coeur.
Now, on the site, is the Relais Hotel du Vieux Paris where Madame Claude Odillard, the owner, maintains the tradition of the Beats with memorabilia of their stay there www.vieuxparis.com *July 1-3, 2009* — there will be concerts, readings, and performances in the Latin Quarter, as well as exhibitions in homage to Burroughs.
